TROY – Irish group Get Up Jack is celebrating a decade of bandship this year. Formed in 2013 by friends and musicians, John Haggerty, Mike D’Angelis, and Scott Apicelli, the Celtic/Irish group continues to entertain audiences throughout the Capital Region and even as far as Ireland.
With D’Angelis now based in Chatham, Mass., the band currently features John Haggerty ( lead vocals/ acoustic guitar), Scott Apicelli (drums and vocals), Crick Diefendorf (mandolin, banjo, steel drums, electric guitar and vocals), Doug Johnson (harmonica, ukulele and vocals), Tucker Callander (fiddle and vocals), and Mike McLean (bass and vocals).
Haggerty, Diefendorf, and McLean also perform alongside John “JB” Guay in the surf-band Big Fez and the Surfmatics.
Get Up Jack made its return visit to the Brunswick Community Center Tuesday, Aug. 8. Fans and community goers danced to many of their favorite Irish covers, originals performed by the band, and unique renditions of “Jessica” (Allman Brothers Band), “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” (The Proclaimers), and “Devil Went Down to Georgia” (Charlie Daniels Band) done up Irish.
