ALBANY — A sure sign the holiday season is here is when hundreds of people strip down to next to nothing and sprint, jog, walk or crawl about 400 meters down Lark Street and then about 400 meters back up.
And many of those who opted not to strip down to their skivvies for the 13th Annual Santa Speedo Sprint on Saturday, Dec. 15, dressed up as robots, dinosaurs, gingerbread men, sumo wrestlers or in some other combination of clothing and props not readily identifiable.
All the proceeds generated by the event — sponsored by the Albany Society for the Advancement of Philanthropy in association with Albany All-Star Roller Derby — will benefit the Albany Damien Center and the HIV/AIDS program at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
This year’s wildly popular Santa Speedo Sprint was accompanied by “A Taste of Lark, Chili and Chowder Edition.” The more than a dozen participating restaurants sold cups of chili and/or chowder for a buck.
