The Guilderland Chamber of Commerce is celebrating its 40th year, and as a way to extend the celebration to the community there will be a community-wide art project that will span the Town of Guilderland.
The project, dubbed “Three Chairs for Guilderland” will involve the Chamber selling Adirondack chairs to businesses and individuals for them to decorate, in a program similar to the “Pigtacular” event held six years ago. The primary difference is the utilization of chairs as opposed to 4-foot tall pigs.
“I saw (the idea) in Ballston Spa a few years ago and thought it was really cool, so when our 40th year came around, the Chamber thought it would be a good idea,” said Kathy Burbank, the president of the Chamber, in reference to a similar event held by the Ballston Spa Business and Professionals Association that saw great success.
The participants can choose to decorate the chairs themselves, or the Chamber will pair them up with one of a number of volunteer artists who have signed on to help.
The chairs will be displayed from June until Labor Day, and the event will conclude with an auction, with all proceeds going towards certain Guilderland athletics and PTAs.
Chairs can be purchased for $100 unassembled, or $130 fully assembled, and they will be exhibited in such places as Stuyvesant Plaza, Crossgates Mall, as well as at the Art in the Park event in Altamont, where a large number will be displayed. All of the locations of the decorated chairs will be mapped out on the event’s website, www.3chairsforguilderland.com, so the public can see their locations.
