The National Museum of Dance announced Tuesday, Jan. 3, the receipt of a $10,000 grant from the Alfred Z. Solomon Charitable Trust to improve and expand the Alfred Z. Solomon Children’s Wing that opened in 2010.
The grant money will go towards a 225-square-foot physical expansion to include a previously installed room with a wood floor and floor-to-ceiling mirrors, which will allow for more interactive toys & games, and educational children’s programming.
Children and adults of all ages are encouraged to play, dance, and imagine in the space when the Museum reopens in March.
Established in 2004, the Alfred Z. Solomon Charitable Trust has given away millions of dollars to programs to local communities. Some programs that received a grant from the Trust include $5,000 to the Franklin Community Center in December 2011 and $15,000 to Fort Ticonderoga in December 2010.
Since its original opening, the Alfred Z. Solomon Children’s Wing has become one of the most popular exhibits at the Museum and has welcomed thousands of visitors, group tours, children’s art exhibitions, classes, and special events. The improvements being made to the Children’s Wing this spring will be completed in time for the Museum’s 2012 season opening on March 20.
