ALBANY COUNTY Lansingburgh fended off a late rally by Voorheesville to pull out a 49-45 victory in a Colonial Council girls basketball game Friday, Jan. 8.
The Knights led 44-33 with less than four minutes left in the fourth quarter when the Blackbirds began their comeback. Voorheesville scored 12 of the next 15 points to close the gap to 47-45 and had a chance to tie the score in the final 30 seconds before Saige Roberts sank a pair of free throws with nine seconds left to seal Lansingburgh’s victory.
Roberts finished the game with 20 points, including a pair of key three pointers in the third quarter that helped Lansingburgh break open a close game. Gessica Patregnani contributed 17 points.
Rachel Blow had 15 points to lead Voorheesville, including a three-pointer that made the score 47-45. Rachael Bogdany added 11 points for the Blackbirds.
In other Colonial Council action, Watervliet eased past Albany Academy 53-35. Meghan Murray netted 17 points, and Ali Changa chipped in with 16 points for the Cannoneers. Emily Padalino had 20 points for Albany Academy.
In the Suburban Council, Bethlehem edged Troy 40-38 in a defensive battle. Juliana Okoniewski scored 13 points, and Emily Wander added 10 points for the Lady Eagles. Troy’s Sabrina Wolfe was the top scorer with 16 points.
Albany handled Guilderland 59-25 behind Bridget Whelan’s 16 points. Skye Lindsay had six points for Guilderland, which managed only nine points after halftime.
Shaker nearly doubled up Mohonasen 66-34 in Rotterdam. Shyla Sanford poured in 20 points, and Arianna DeNault contributed 11 points for the Blue Bison, who used a 15-4 run in the second quarter to pull away. Saeeda Abdul-Aziz netted 21 points for Mohonasen.
