COLONIE The Shaker girls basketball team edged Averill Park 55-54 in overtime to win its Suburban Council season opener Tuesday, Dec. 1.
The Blue Bison (1-0) led by 11 points at halftime, but the Lady Warriors (0-1) rallied to tie the score at 47-47 at the end of regulation.
CeCe Mayo netted 19 points, and Arianna DeNault chipped in with 10 points for Shaker. Samantha Laranjo had 15 points for Averill Park.
In another Suburban Council game, Troy held on for a 53-49 victory over Colonie. The Flying Horses (1-0) grabbed an 18-11 lead after the first quarter and fended off a late rally.
Sabrina Wolfe poured in 20 points, and Shaile Frierson added 18 points for Troy. Erin Fouracre’s 20 points paced Colonie. Alivia Paeglow contributed 15 points for the Lady Raiders.
In the Colonial Council, Watervliet (1-0) hung on for a 34-33 victory over Ichabod Crane. Ali Changa scored 11 points for Watervliet, while Paige Niemeyer had 10 points for Ichabod Crane (0-1).
