Colonie boys basketball coach Ken Dagostino earned his first win with his new team Friday, Dec. 5.
Nolan Smith scored 26 points to lead the Garnet Raiders to a 67-61 Suburban Council South Division victory over Averill Park in Colonie. Smith made six three-pointers to help Colonie (1-1) fend off Averill Park (2-1) in a game that was close throughout.
Josh Paszkowski contributed 16 points, and John Fouracre added 11 points for the Garnet Raiders. Myles Joyce’s 19 points paced the Warriors, who also had three players in double figures.
Colonie entered Friday’s game off a 62-53 loss to Columbia in the season opener Tuesday, Dec. 2. Smith had 18 points in that contest, while Jahlil Nails poured in 33 points for Columbia (1-1).
Girls basketball
The Colonie girls basketball team earned its first win of the season by beating Whitesboro 61-31 in a non-league game Saturday, Dec. 6.
The Lady Raiders (1-2) built a 28-16 halftime lead and pulled away by outscoring Whitesboro 33-15 in the second half.
Aliyah Massaconi led three Colonie players in double figures with 17 points. Aliyah Wright contributed 14 points, and Amber Yarter added 10 points.
Colonie’s first two Suburban Council games didn’t go well, as the Lady Raiders lost to Columbia 65-54 Tuesday, Dec. 2, and to Averill Park 67-51 Friday, Dec. 5.
Erin Fouracre netted 14 points, and Massaconi chipped in with 11 points for Colonie against Columbia (2-0). Sarah Jaromin had 17 points for the Blue Devils.
Colonie matched Averill Park (2-0) point for point in the first quarter, but the Warriors outscored the Lady Raiders 19-9 in the second quarter to grab a 40-30 halftime lead. Averill Park then used a 19-7 third quarter to put the game out of Colonie’s reach.
Fouracre led all scorers with 21 points, while Samantha Laranjo paced Averill Park with 17 points.
Wrestling
The Colonie wrestling team posted a 5-0 record in winning the Ballston Spa Duals Saturday, Dec. 6.
Jake DiSanto, Taylor Pfaff, Gerson Merillo and Noah Fyan were among the Garnet Raiders who won matches by either pin or technical fall.
Boys bowling
The Colonie boys bowling team defeated Averill Park 23-11 in a Suburban Council match Friday, Dec. 5.
Kevin Benedetto rolled a high game of 266 and a high series of 742 to lead the Garnet Raiders. Andrew Bennett contributed a game of 245 and a three-game series of 663.
