Five nominess. Only one can win. Who is your Section 2 Class AA football player of the year? Here are the candidates:
Ryan Van Galen (Shenendehowa quarterback) — The senior has thrown for more than 2,000 yards and 22 touchdowns through the Plainsmen’s first 11 games. He was also named the Empire Division Player of the Year.
Ben Zonca (Bethlehem running back) — In his first and only season as Bethlehem’s featured back, the senior gained 1,240 yards and scored 18 touchdowns. He was named the Liberty Division Player of the Year.
Matt Woods (Shaker quarterback) — The senior guided Shaker to the Liberty Division title and a Sectional semifinal appearance, on his way to earning the Liberty Division Offensive Player of the Year award.
Donald Vivian (CBA) — Even though he was listed second on the QB depth chart, the senior shone in all aspects of the game as he threw for three touchdowns, caught three touchdown passes and added three interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown. He was named the Empire Division All-Purpose Player of the Year.
Eugene Reyes (Colonie) — The senior caught 43 passes for 771 yards and 10 touchdowns, and he was one of the top defensive backs in the section. He earned the Liberty Division All-Purpose Player of the Year award.
