Bethlehem’s Grace Smith won the public school division title in the girls high jump at the New York State High School Indoor Track and Field Championships March 1 at Cornell University.
Smith cleared the bar at 5 feet, 7 inches to earn the state title in the public school division. Medgar Evers’ Shayla Broughton claimed the Federation championship by clearing 5 feet, 8 inches.
Bethlehem’s boys 800-meter relay team finished third in the public school division and fourth in the Federation with a time of 1:35.52. Najee Barnette, Ethan Strauss, Ben Young and Connor Kimmey ran for Bethlehem.
Brian Greenberg placed fifth in the public school division and sixth overall in the triple jump for Bethlehem. The senior’s best distance was 45 feet, 11 inches.
Noah Bell added a top-20 performance in the 3,200-meter run for the Eagles. Bell finished 13th in the state and 17th overall with a time of 9:39.24.
Steve Booker ran the first leg on Section II’s intersectional relay team. The Bethlehem senior posted an opening time of 2:34.65 to help Section II finish second with a time of 8:58.34. Bethlehem’s Abbi Wright was part of Section II’s girls intersectional team, which placed seventh in the public school division and eighth overall with a time of 10:39.52.
Guilderland sent three individuals to the state meet. Harrison Bickmore led the Dutchmen contingent by tying for 12th among public school competitors and 16th overall in the high jump by clearing the bar at 6 feet. Jon Feil was 13th in the state and 15th overall in the boys 600-meter dash with a time of 1:25.16, and Abby Marco finished 19th among public school runners and 23rd overall in the girls 55-meter high hurdles with a time of 9.09 seconds.
