The Bethlehem baseball team pulled away for a 5-1 victory over Guilderland in Friday’s Coaches vs. Cancer game at Joseph Bruno Stadium.
The Suburban Council South Division rivals helped raise money for cancer research as part of a Section II doubleheader. Both teams donned special pink jerseys, with Bethlehem opting for a design reminiscent of the 1970s-era Houston Astros.
Guilderland (5-8 league) grabbed a 1-0 lead on a bases-loaded single in the top of the third inning, but Bethlehem (9-4, 13-4) scored twice in its half of the frame to take the lead. The Eagles added two runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
Nick DiNapoli hit a home run, while Nick Gallucci and Pat Curran each contributed a pair of hits for Bethlehem. Lewis Lima singled twice for Guilderland.
Troy defeated Big 10 rival Christian Brothers Academy 5-2 in the nightcap of the doubleheader.
