The Shenendehowa girls basketball team remained within striking distance of first-place Shaker in the Suburban Council North Division by beating Mohonasen 39-27 in Tuesday’s game in Clifton Park.
Carly Boland scored 12 points to pace the Lady Plainsmen (4-2 league, 6-2 overall). Ashley Acker contributed nine points in the defensive battle.
Kelsey Cowell’s 12 points led the Mighty Warriors.
Meanwhile, Shaker (7-0, 9-0) remained unbeaten with its 66-41 Suburban Council victory over Columbia in Latham. The Blue Bison scored the first 28 points of the game on their way to a convincing victory.
Madison Rowland had 19 points, and Jenni Barra contributed 13 points for Shaker, which meets Shen Thursday at Siena College.
Boys basketball
Colonie jumped out to an 18-8 lead after the first eight minutes and held on for a 72-67 victory over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake in Tuesday’s Suburban Council boys basketball game.
Jake Samuels poured in a game-high 29 points for the Garnet Raiders (4-3, 5-4). Sonny Benson chipped in with 16 points, and John Ziamandanis added 12 points.
David Wellington’s 19 points paced a balanced BH-BL attack. Robert Knightes contributed 17 points, and Austin Nydeggar added 15 points for the Spartans (2-5, 3-6).
Elsewhere, Bethlehem (6-1, 8-1) bounced back from its first loss of the season by beating Saratoga Springs 76-56 in Delmar.
Myles Bergere had 22 points, and Nate Kane dropped in five three-pointers on his way to scoring 21 points for the Eagles. Noah Arciero’s 16 points paced the Blue Streaks (2-5, 4-5).
Boys swimming
Shenendehowa handed Bethlehem its first loss of the season by beating the Eagles 101-77 in Tuesday’s Suburban Council boys swimming duel meet in Clifton Park.
Ryan Gordon swept the 50- and 100-yard freestyles for the Plainsmen (6-0). Eric Burdge (200 freestyle), Luke Gordon (200 individual medley), Adam Bonk (diving), Eric Tsui (100 butterfly) and Connor Killane (500 freestyle) also won individual events.
Phil Scott (100-yard backstroke) and Evan Ginsburg (100 breaststroke) posted individual victories for Bethlehem.
Shaker (5-0) kept pace with Shen in the Suburban Council standings with Tuesday’s 99-78 duel meet victory at Guilderville.
William Matz led the Blue Bison with wins in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke. Timothy Buff (200 freestyle), Tighe Carroll (diving), Brian Nolte (100 butterfly), Nikos Moisidis (100 freestyle) and Zeeshan Irani (100 backstroke) also earned individual victories.
Reid Zyniecki posted wins in the 50- and 500-yard freestyles for Guilderville (0-5).
Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake defeated Ballston Spa 97-73 in another Suburban Council meet. Brandon Beaudoin led the Spartans with wins in the 200-yard individual medley and the 500-yard freestyle, while Michael Lyden (50 freestyle), Tim Monaghan (100 butterfly), Ben Olson (100 backstroke) and Michael Baumgarten (100 breaststroke) added individual victories.
Chris Vesic finished first in the 100- and 200-yard freestyles for Ballston Spa.
