The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake boys basketball team endured a coaching change three days before the start of its season.
Head coach George Dudas stepped down Tuesday due to health reasons, said BH-BL Athletic Director Bob McGuire. Junior varsity coach Gary Bynon takes over for Dudas.
“The transition is not going to be much of a problem,” said McGuire. “That continuity is going to be there, so that’s a good thing.”
McGuire said Dudas met with him after Dudas went to his doctor’s office.
“He’s been told that he’s got to find a way to release some stress in his life, and probably the biggest source of his stress right now is coaching basketball,” said McGuire.
Bynon — who is better known as the architect of five state champion girls volleyball teams at BH-BL — brings experience to his role as the new varsity coach.
“He coached (the varsity boys team) in the 1980s and 1990s before Bill Martin took over,” said McGuire. “I feel very comfortable with him being in that position.”
BH-BL begins its Suburban Council season Friday when it travels to Saratoga Springs for a North Division game.
