In OT, Shaker beats Colonie in Class AA tournament

SARATOGA — Whenever Shaker and Colonie square off it’s a good game. Records and standings don’t much matter.

But, on Thursday, Feb. 27 the two girls basketball teams were evenly matched — Colonie finished the regular season at 9-4 in Suburban Council play and Shaker finished at 8-5 — and it was during the Class AA sectional tournament. The stakes was a bit higher than a bragging rights.

And, appropriately, the game went to OT.

In the end, Shaker, the No. 5 seed, outlasted the No. 4 seed from Colonie by a score of 53-50 and will play the No. 1 seed Saratoga in the semifinals on Thursday, March 5 at Hudson Valley Community College. Tip is slated for 7:30 p.m.

Kathleenjoy Gordon and Sole Carrington finished with a game high 13 points for the Bison while Jules DeBeatham had 12.

Ahnalese Pearson had 13 to lead Colonie, Makayla Blake had 12 and Sereena DiCerbo had nine.

In the other Class AA mathup, the No. 2 seed Shen, which beat the No. 7 seed Bethlehem, will take on the No. 6 seed from Albany, which upset the No. 3 seed Niskayuna. That game is slated to tip off at 6 p.m. on March 5 at HVCC.
