SPOTTED: Colonie drops Suburban Council matchup to Nisky
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

COLONIE — The Garnet Raiders lost a Suburban Council matchup to Niskayuna on Tuesday, Feb. 4 in a game that was closer than the 63-44 score.

Both teams were 7-2 and tied for third place in the competitive Blue Division heading into the game and both teams started out slow. There was not a basket until about midway through the first quarter and the score was 7-7 after one.

Niskayuna standout Olivia Olsen, who finished with a game high 22 points, was a force early on. At 6 feet, 2 inches tall, she had three blocked shots in the first quarter and her presence kept the Colonie offense out of the paint.

At the half, Niskayuna led by three but went on a 13-5 run to take an 11 point lead with 5:04 left in the third. Colonie came within seven with 5:08 left in the game, but Nisky went on an 18-6 run to finish.

Ahnalese Pearson had 16 for Colonie while Makayla Blake had eight and Sareena DiCerbo and Macie Trimarchi had six each.

Ivian Owens and Heather Schmidt had 11 each for Nisky.

On Friday, Feb. 7, Colonie will travel to Saratoga to take on the undefeated Blue Knights and then play Columbia on Tuesday, Feb. 11 before returning home for the last regular season game on Friday, Feb. 14 against Bethlehem.
