EAST GREENBUSH – The Tri-Village All Stars lost by the mercy rule in the final game of the 9-11-year-old Little League state championships on Friday, July 27.
But, while not the ending they had hoped, they won more games than any other team in the tournament and knocked out four of the seven other teams.
“It was an amazing run by our team,” said coach Chris Pajak. “So proud of how they battled this week.”
The team lost 9-6 in the first round to Longwood, of Suffolk County, on Saturday, July 21, so they got sent to the losers bracket in the double elimination tournament.
After Longwood, Tri-Village beat Saratoga 10-7, South Shore 5-4, Webster 6-4 and then Massapequa Coast 5-0 for the right to play Haverstraw, from Rockland County, in the championship.
Bethlehem won the first game 4-3, for its fifth win of the tournament, and then lost the second 11-0 in five innings. It was Haverstraw’s fourth win.
