VOORHEESVILLE – The Blackbirds beat Ravena on a two-run, walk-off home run by Joe Saia in the bottom of the seventh inning.
On a cold, windy mid-April day, Voorheesville jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one. The Indians scored three in the top of the fourth, and Voorheesville tied it up in the bottom of the inning.
Ravena had runners on second and third in their half of the last but failed to score.
Voorheesville’s Mason Wight, batting in the No. 9 slot, drew a walk to start the bottom of the seventh, Colby Hoffman flew out to center and then, facing a new pitcher, Saia hit a line-drive shot over left center to win the Colonial Council matchup 5-3.
For the Blackbirds, Saia went 1 for 2 with a walk and two runs scored and two RBIs, Wight went 1 for 1 with a run scored and an RBI and James Conley and Jacob Rychcik each went 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Ravena was led by Griffin Racey, who went 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs, Spencer Kane had a hit and three walks while Carter Sorensen and Anthony Pistritto each had a hit.
On the mound, Kellen Chowenhill went six innings for Voorheesville giving up three runs on five hits while walking three and striking out nine. Carter Romansky pitched the seventh and did not give up any runs while walking two and striking out two.
Racey went 6 1-3 innings for Ravena and gave up three runs on four hits while walking four and striking out four. Sorensen pitched to one batter – Saia.
