TROY – The Voorheesville girls basketball team kept its Cinderella post season going by beating the No. 1 seed Tamarac to win the Section II, Class B championship by a score of 51-46.
The No. 6 seed Blackbirds didn’t finish the Colonial Council season at 500, going 6-7 in league play and 10-9 overall.
But, once the sectionals started, they got by the No. 11 seed Johnstown, then No. 3 seed Cobleskill-Richmondville and No. 2 Mechanicville and then beat the top seed on Saturday, March 3 at Hudson Valley Community College.
Emily Burke, the tournament MVP, and Rebecca Clair had 16 each for the Blackbirds to lead all scorers while Olivia Barringer had nine points and Victoria Konicki chipped in seven. Leah Weber had three to round out the scoring for Voorheesville.
Emily Erickson and Renna Poulin had 14 each for Tamarac and while Kayla Doody had 10.
