Tigers Sports Club won the inaugural Empire Cup baseball tournament June 21 and 22.
Tigers defeated Clifton Park/Halfmoon 9-7 in the championship game Sunday, June 22, at Lansingburgh High School to finish the 16-team tournament with a 5-0 record. Tigers knocked off North Colonie 9-3 in one semifinal, while Clifton Park/Halfmoon edged Upstate Chill’s 18-and-under squad 4-3 in the other semifinal.
The Bethlehem Eagles were one of five teams to finish with a 3-1 record. The Eagles beat the Montreal Prospects 6-2 and the Guilderland White Bulldogs 15-14 on the first day of pool play at Line Drive Field, but they lost to Upstate Chill 18U 9-3 on Day 2 to fall short of winning their bracket. Bethlehem shut out Ottawa 5-0 in a consolation contest June 22 at Clifton Commons.
The Guilderland Red Bulldogs also posted a 3-1 record at the Empire Cup. The Red Bulldogs bounced back from a 13-1 loss to Clifton Park/Halfmoon in the opener June 21 at Clifton Commons to defeat the Montreal Rockies 11-2 and the Electric City Charge 5-1.
The Red Bulldogs topped the Schenectady Cyclones 6-1 in a consolation contest June 22 at Line Drive.
The Guilderland White Bulldogs ended the tournament with a 1-3 record. Their lone victory was a 4-1 win against the Montreal Prospects in their final pool play game at Line Drive.
