A Siena College basketball player was arrested for stealing another student’s wallet, Colonie police said.
On Thursday, April 4, the Colonie Police Department investigated a burglary at Siena College Cushing Townhouse 110 at 515 Loudon Road after receiving a call from a student saying an unknown person entered the townhouse and stole his wallet. The wallet contained a debit card, Subway card and the person’s ID. The investigation was ongoing until Siena College Public Safety Officials called the Colonie police on Friday, April 12, saying they had found the wallet in Siena College Cushing Townhouse 139. Police said Siena officials found the debit card and Subway card in 21-year-old Rakeem J. Brookins’ pocket.
Brookins, a Siena student and basketball player from Jenkintown, Pa., was charged and arraigned in Colonie Justice Court on April 12 and remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail. Brookins has since posted bail and is scheduled to appear in Colonie Justice Court. He was charged with burglary in the second degree and grand larceny in the fourth degree.
A statement released by Siena College said they will not provide any additional information on Brookins’ disciplinary actions.
