Editor, The Spotlight:
On Nov. 3, a remarkable event took place at The First United Methodist Church, the annual fall fair. The hallways of the church hummed with excitement from start to finish, and were filled with happy customers loaded with newfound treasurers.
This would not have been possible without the dedicated service of members of the church congregation and the generosity of our community. At the conclusion of the day , trucks, station wagons, vans and trailers were filled with hundreds of useful items for local relief organizations. The Capital City Rescue Mission, USCRI – U.S. Committee for Refugees, Mohawk Hudson Humane Society and other churches benefited.
The youth of our community came out in force again this year to make light work of some difficult tasks that needed doing. The Boy Scouts, Troop 75 and the RPMs (youth group) assisted with set up, managed rooms and helped with clean up at the end of the day.
We must also recognize our local business for their generous support: Applebee Funeral Home, Bruegger’s Bagels, Price Chopper, Hannaford and ShopRite of Slingerlands.
The First United Methodist Church is accepting donations of clothing (in season) and accessories at the Treasure Cove Thrift Shop. Donations can be dropped off on Monday and Tuesdays. All other donations are being suspended at this time.
Thank you again to the all those who made this event a truly remarkable one
