Editor, The Spotlight:
I appreciate that The Spotlight covered the Reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Elm Avenue park on the 4th of July. I would just like to make a few clarifications to the article that was written in the July 11 edition of The Spotlight about that event.
Although I have been involved with the Reading since it first started in 2008 it was not my idea. Credit for starting this great tradition goes to Mr. and Mrs. Jim McCormick. They had the idea back in 2008 and asked our scout Troop if we could help with the logistics.
This has been a cooperative effort with the Town of Bethlehem, Hannaford Supermarket, Stewart’s and Troop 58 Scouts for the past 5 years. With each year the celebration has grown and this year Venture Crew 58 joined in to help with the Sing A Long.
It is with the generous support of all the community that here in the Town of Bethlehem we can start the day’s festivities off with a reminder of the reason for us to gather. “… we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor.”
