The following contrasts the claims made by our current Town Board members and Supervisor as compared to the facts/data found in official town budget documents.
1.) Claim: `We’re controlling taxes.`
Facts/Data: Amount of taxes to be collected in 2012 will be the highest in the history of Glenville. 2011 taxes are the 2nd highest in the history of the town.
2.) Claim: `We’re controlling spending/appropriations.`
Facts/Data: 2011 spending/appropriations were the highest in the the history of Glenville. 2012 spending will be the 2nd highest in the history of Glenville.
3.) Claim: `We’re reducing the number of town employees.`
Facts/Data: 2012budget, with less employee’s, results: A) reduces the cost of employee payroll by $6,118.00 or 1/10th of 1%. B) increases costs of employee benefits by $168,181.00 or 5.1% over 2011 budget.
4.) Claim: `We’re saving money on employee health insurance.`
Facts/Data: 2012 budget for employee health insurance will increase costs by $371,000.00 or 26.1% over the projected 2011 year end costs for this item.
5.) Claim: `Town revenues are decreasing each year.`
Facts/Data: 2012 budgeted revenues will be the highest in the history of Glenville. 2011 revenues will be the 2nd highest in history.
