I am writing to support the Bail Reform 2020 law. These new pre-trial laws promote fair and equal justice and dismantle racism by ensuring that fewer innocent people are sitting in jail across the state.
The fear mongering related to the new bail and discovery laws are based in lies and racist rhetoric. New York pre-trial reform transformed a system that deprived people of their right to liberty because they could not afford bail.
Poor people should not have different rights than people with resources. Please oppose rollbacks or changes to the pre-trial laws.
I applaud Chris Churchill and encourage anyone to read his Jan. 28 article in the Times Union.
