As a resident of Colonie for over 30 years, I read with interest the story about the potential Hoffman development. I’m particularly concerned on several fronts. All of us have seen the dramatic increase in traffic on Route 9 south of Route 155 and I believe this type of project will have a major negative impact. In spite of the developers manipulating numbers, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that a facility and adjacent stores will generate quite a bit more traffic than the out of state developers’ estimate. Think of not only the facility residents but family visitors, caregivers suppliers etc. It will be a traffic nightmare.
In addition the aesthetics of squeezing a four-story building, shops and other structures into the small area will be extremely unsightly.
The adjacent apartment buildings to the north are not pleasant to look at with three stories and the thought of a four-story building shoehorned into the Hoffman property will be extremely unsightly.
If people would look around this area or in other places at the footprint of similar structures I don’t think they would want one on Route 9.
Lastly no one has talked about the large former auto dealership property across from Hoffman’s. What will be developed on that site?
Let’s reject the Hoffman proposal and take a comprehensive look at town wide development that works for the residents of Colonie.
