Editor, The Spotlight;
The frigid temperatures we experienced in February caused numerous water pipe breaks, fires, and emergency situations throughout Colonie and the Capital District.
I wonder how many of our businesses and residents realize that fire department members responding to these calls in Colonie are volunteers. The men and women who answer these calls are our neighbors and friends, and they all have a dedication and commitment to our community that is unprecedented.
As a former Commissioner of the Midway Fire District I had first-hand experience working with these extraordinary volunteers. What would we do without them? These Volunteer Fire departments, our Police and Emergency Medical services are the backbone of Colonie.
It is my hope that more of our citizens will take the time to give back to the community in which they live. I hope you will consider contacting your local fire company and contemplate joining. Along with the friendships and comradery you will experience, you will have a fulfilling and awarding experience knowing that you are making a positive difference in your community through your volunteer service.
