Dr. Tom Denham
Career Counselor and Motivational Speaker
Residence: Delmar
Hometown: Delmar
What have you been listening to lately?
The mighty Led Zeppelin. It was my favorite band in high school and they have produced a wealth of music.
What have you been reading?
“Sea Kayaking the Baltimore/Washington D.C. Area” by Michaela Gaaserud as well as “Rock Climbing in Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland” by Eric Horst. Kayaking and climbing are two of my core passions. My sister lives in Virginia and I love exploring all that area. I also have been reading The Spotlight. I think that’s the correct answer to the question so I wanted to include it.
What is your favorite show on TV?
“American Ninja Warrior.” I am inspired by the athlete’s strength, determination and sacrifice to achieve their goal. I don’t have a lot of time for TV because I am usually training for running or climbing.
What was the last movie you saw?
“Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.” My daughter and I make our annual summer visit to the Jericho Drive-In. We’ve had some really happy memories there. I recommend it.
Could you describe what your dream vacation would be?
I spent a study abroad in Switzerland. My end goal is to go back and climb the Matterhorn. It’s on my bucket list.
What are some of your hobbies?
Are you sitting down? Rock and ice climbing, high altitude mountaineering, kayaking, canoeing, running, skiing, snow shoeing, hiking and mountain biking. I have an unquenchable thirst for adventure. I can’t seem to kick my addiction to danger.
What would your last meal be?
Triple order of extra crispy naked chicken wings with extra blue cheese from My Place & Company in Delmar.
Who is the one person (dead or alive) that you would most like to meet?
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I would have been right next to him every step of the way. His “I have been to the mountain top” speech is so moving and powerful. Since I’m going to be spending eternity with Jesus Christ, I’ll meet him later.
