Jim Zheng
Sushi Chef, Tea House Asian Bistro
Residence: Glenmont
Hometown: Jingle City, China
What have you been listening to lately?
Mostly Chinese Country music.
What have you been reading?
I read Golf Magazine. My son is 13 and the day he was born I quit golfing. Now that my kids are older we can play together. It’s a really wonderful thing. I never thought I would be able to play again.
What is your favorite show on TV?
Baseball. I don’t have a favorite team, but a lot of customers ask me why I like the Boston Red Sox (because of the “Red Socks Rolls” on their sushi menu). I also like the New York Giants and I watch the Golf Channel.
What was the last movie you saw?
“Jurassic World” with my kids. I think I like the old one better, though- the first one especially. I watched that one maybe 100, 200 times to learn English.
Could you describe what your dream vacation would be?
Hawaii. The sushi there is comparable to the best in Tokyo. The fish over there is great.
What are some of your hobbies?
I garden in the mornings. I work all the time, so my only free time is in the morning. That’s when I garden.
What would your last meal be?
Something I made myself. Not sushi, though. Everyday I look at fish. It would be something simple, something fresh from my garden- some vegetables.
What is something you think most people would be surprised to learn about you?
I really want to be able to solve a Rubik’s Cube with a blindfold. A few years ago, I was pretty quick, and my son is very good at it now. It’s something I want to do before I die.
What three things would you bring to a desert island?
A chess set. When I was young I won a chess tournament in China. My wife and three children. I couldn’t pick just one, or else my wife would be mad at me, so I would bring them all. Video games- I spend a lot of time playing them. It’s what I do for fun.
