FEURA BUSH – Donald R. Davies, 76, of Feura Bush, NY entered eternal rest on Sunday, August 6, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
At his bedside at the time of his passing were his wife of 53 years, Jo Ann, his son Brian, and his daughter-in-law Amber.
Don was born on November 5, 1946, in Utica, NY, and lived in Cassville, NY until he moved to the Capital District in 1969. He is predeceased by his parents D. Reginald and Marjorie R. Davies, and his beloved grandmother Inez Manning.
He graduated with a degree in accounting in 1968 from Rider College, Trenton, NJ. He then moved to the Capital District, living for the past 37 years in the countryside of Feura Bush, NY surrounded by a very large lawn he loved to mow. He retired in 2002 as a Financial Systems Analyst for the NYS Dept. of Social Services.
A lifelong fan of stock car racing, for more than 50 years Don and his wife penned a weekly column for a national trade publication, covering racing events from Canada to Florida. He was happiest roaming the pits of race tracks, talking to everyone, as he gathered information for the next column. He and his wife were honored to be Hall of Fame members of the NYSSCA (New York State Stock Car Association) and recipients of the Northeast Dirt Modified Hall of Fame Media Excellence Award in 2018.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Meyers Funeral Home, Delmar, NY. Donations in Don’s memory may be made to the Onesquethaw Food Pantry, 11 Groesbeck Road, Feura Bush, NY 12067.
