SLINGERLANDS – An 18-year-old Selkirk man was reportedly doing burnouts around the Blessing Road traffic circle on Route 85 in his Chevrolet Silverado pickup on Saturday, March 29 at 1:20 a.m. when witnesses called police. The man also had two friends in the truck cab with him and had allegedly been drinking.
What could go wrong?
According to police reports, when officers arrived, they observed the truck on its passenger side in the median of Route 85 and the vehicle still running with the keys in the ignition. The man and two female occupants exited through the driver’s side and were uninjured.
Officers observed an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the breath of the driver. He also had bloodshot, droopy, and watery eyes. The man was given and failed field sobriety tests. He refused to take a test for breath alcohol on a pre-screening device.
At the police station, the man also refused to take a breathalyzer test. He was charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, and ticketed for refusing to take a breath test and failing to keep right.
The man was released with an appearance ticket for Bethlehem Town Court on April 23.
