State Police said a “concerned citizen” reporting a speeding vehicle led police to discover the vehicle was reported stolen earlier that day.
Police said on Thursday, July 11, around 6:55 p.m., a gray Toyota Camry was reported traveling eastbound on I-90 at a “high rate of speed” and being “all over the road.” Police ran the license plate described and discovered the vehicle was reported stolen by the Albany County Sheriff’s Department.
Darren H. LaRose, 25, of Middleburgh, was stopped by police on I-90 in the Town of Guilderland. Police estimated he was traveling 20 mph over the speed limit before he was pulled over and taken into custody.
Further investigation allegedly revealed LaRose was driving with a suspended license and was under the influence of drugs.
LaRose was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, a felony, driving while ability impaired by drugs and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree.
LaRose was remanded to the Albany County jail and was arraigned Friday, July 12, in Albany City Court. He was being held without bail until Monday, July 15, when he was scheduled to appear in City Court for a felony hearing.
