State Police arrested a Brooklyn man on drug charges after he was pulled over for speeding in the Town of Coeymans.
Police pulled over a 2006 Infiniti G35 sedan on the Thruway at about 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 20. The driver, Ismael Almontaser, 20, was allegedly driving 93 in a 65 mph zone. Police said he handed over an incorrect driver’s license and gave a false name. After detecting a `very strong` odor of marijuana, police searched the car and allegedly discovered a large black duffle bag containing 14 pounds of marijuana that was broken up between 13 packages.
Almontaser was charged with criminal possession of marijuana in the first degree, a felony, criminal impersonation in the second degree, a misdemeanor, and several vehicle and traffic law infractions.
Almontaser was arraigned in Coeymans Town Court and remanded to Albany County jail without bail. He is scheduled to reappear in court on Tuesday, June 25.
