Police arrested two women on New Year’s Day for stealing a television from a Rotterdam store.
On Tuesday, Jan. 1, at approximately 9 p.m., Rotterdam police received a report of a robbery occurring at Walmart on Altamont Avenue. Police said two women, one of whom was allegedly armed, entered the store and stole a 46-inch television before fleeing the scene in their car. Before they left the store, one allegedly implied to store employees she had a gun.
The car was located by Schenectady police shortly after the crime occurred and the occupants were determined to be the women from the crime scene, police said. Sarah Hughes, 31, of Spruce Street, Schenectady and Alisha Vanleuvan, 29, of Hillside Avenue, Niskayuna, were arrested and both were charged with robbery in the second degree, a felony. The TV was recovered at a residence on George Street in Schenectady.
They were remanded to the Schenectady County jail in lieu of $10,000 bail. Police said the investigation is ongoing and further charges a possible.
