Colonie police arrested a man on drug and weapon charges on Wednesday, April 18, following a joint investigation with U.S. Postal Inspectors, according to police.
Patrick J. Hogan, 30, of 7 Van Buren Ave. in Colonie was charged with criminal possession of marijuana in the second degree, a felony, and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor, according to police reports.
According to police, U.S. postal inspectors identified a suspicious package `destined` for Hogan and confirmed the presence of illegal drugs with the assistance of a K9 from the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department, after which the package was found to contain marijuana weighing 2 lbs 3 ounces.
The package was mailed from a fake address in California and an investigation revealed that it was one of 12 similar deliveries made to Hogan in the last four months, with all packages mailed from Fresno or Sacramento, Cali., according to police.
U.S. postal inspectors and Colonie police delivered the package to Hogan’s residence and then executed a search warrant for the residence, which uncovered a shotgun illegally possessed by Hogan due to a prior criminal conviction, and an inoperable sawed-off shotgun, according to police.
Hogan was remanded to Albany County Correctional Facility without bail.
