A Watervliet man could face up to 50 years in jail after being convicted of rape on Wednesday, March 14, according to Albany County District Attorney David Soares’ office.
Joseph Sposito, 28, was found guilty of one count of rape in the first degree and one count of criminal sexual act, both felonies, stemming from an Oct. 3, 2010 incident where he engaged in criminal sexual activity with a female victim who was not capable of consent due to being `physically helpless,` according to Soares’ office. The victim was left with physical injuries and was treated at a local hospital, according to Soares’ office.
Sposito faces up to 50 years in state prison when sentenced in April.
“The victim in this case suffered immensely and then was revictimized by being cross examined in open court. I applaud her strength and courage throughout this entire case,” said Soares in a statement.
