State Police announced new information regarding the fatal collision between a pickup truck and a pedestrian that occurred around 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, on the northbound ramp of exit 4 on I87, according to State Police reports.
According to police reports, 40-year-old Dawn Marie Wright of Clifton Park was walking northbound along the Northway on-ramp from Wolf Road when a 33-year-old Loudonville man driving a 1997 GMC pickup was entering the on-ramp and struck her.
Police on Thursday, Dec. 1, said Wright had been arrested by Colonie Police for DWI-Drugs and had been in their custody until shortly before the incident occurred. According to police reports, Wright had been released to a responsible party but had parted company with them, choosing to walk instead, and witnesses saw a woman in the vicinity of the ramp that morning attempting to hitchhike. Wright had walked up the ramp to a point where the two ramp lanes started to divide when she was struck, said police.
Police said on Wednesday the driver of the pickup immediately stopped and that charges are not expected to be filed at this time.
An autopsy revealed the cause of death was due to cardio/pulmonary arrest due to massive head trauma, according to police reports.
