Someone stole a Meals on Wheels delivery van on Monday, Nov. 21, and MOW desperately needs it back, according to Senior Services of Albany, Inc. which runs the program. A dark green Plymouth Voyager was stolen on Monday night from the parking area at 20 Rensselaer St. in Albany, according to Jane Schramm, executive director of Senior Services of Albany. “This theft could not happen at a worse time for our organization,` said Schramm. `We desperately need every one of our delivery vehicles, especially right before the Thanksgiving holidays when seniors rely more than ever on us for their meals and support. This is a huge blow to us.” MOW delivers around 1,000 meals each day to `frail, homebound elderly` throughout Albany County and other areas of the Capital District and the loss of a delivery vehicle will impact that service `tremendously.` `…We simply do not have the resources to easily replace them,` said Schramm.
Anyone interested in donating a vehicle too MOW should contact Schramm or Donna Vancavage at 465-3322. Anyone with information about the stolen vehicle should contact the Albany Police Department.
