Saratoga Springs Police arrested a city man for stealing more than $33,000 from the St. Clements Horse Show, according to information from the department.
Charles D. Walling, 56, of Waterview Drive was charged with six counts of forgery in the second degree, six counts of falsifying business records in the first degree, one count of grand larceny in the third degree and one count of scheme to defraud in the first degree, according to police reports.
Walling is alleged to have stolen a total of $33,303.01 between April 2005 and May 2011 through the sale of t-shirts and souvenirs at the horse show, according to police reports.
In mid-July, the police department began an investigation into possible thefts related to the St. Clements Horse Show during the past several years after a member of the St. Clements finance committee notified police of the suspected thefts, said police
Police allege that Walling would order a quantity of shirts that were sold at the horse show, submit falsified invoices in an amount larger than the actual cost of the shirts and then keep the difference. The invoices allegedly were forged in the name of a legitimate company and submitted to the St. Clements Horse Show, which would pay Walling the amount listed on the invoices, said police.
