The inspiration behind the name comes from a dream.
Robert Remillard, principal of White Wolf Computer, LLC., said when it was time to place a name on his newly established business, he didn’t want to follow down the path of his computer industry peers who were enamored with fixing “Tech” or “i” before the name.
The dream is actually folklore from an unattributed Native American tribe. The protagonist dreams of two wolves tangled with one another in a fight. One black. One white. The dreamer intuitively understands one represents evil, while the other represents good, but he wakes before the fight ends. He visits an elder to find out who won.
“The one who wins is the one you feed,” said the wise, old man.
Remillard opened for business in 2003, having moved a few times across the Capital District before establishing a store front in Delmar nearly three years ago. The 12 years that have gone by since he first worked from home is a millennia in tech-years, and he’s kept pace with the trends.
“The technology today was unheard of five years ago,” said Remillard. “Now, when you download and install something, the moment a problem arises, we can go right in and fix it (remotely).”
Computer repair has advanced beyond the need of a customer picking up their desktop and dropping it off to a shop for a week or two. Script writing has enabled Remillard to empower a client’s computer to act proactively on its own when trouble occurs. He said it’s best to address the problem when it first occurs instead of ignoring the symptoms and allowing it to grow into a larger issue.
“It’s really like your teeth,” he said. “If you have a cavity and you ignore it, eventually you’re looking at a root canal.”
