Joyelles Fine Jewelers has been a fixture in the Delmar community for more than a quarter century, and being so, Mary Vail and her crew have developed a familial bond with their local customers.
“This is a family orientated store,” said Vail. “When kids come in to get something for their mother, we’ve been known to give a junior discount. We’ve given many of those over the years. Now, they come back for engagement rings and wedding bands.”
Joyelles specializes in customer service and devotes undivided attention to their customers, whether they are in the need of a simple repair or are making the purchase of a lifetime. They carry a wide range of inventory ranging from glassware, candles, scents and lotions to sterling sliver, gold, diamonds, colored stone jewelry and one of a kind work. The store has two expert jewelers and a trained staff that can assist with repairs and custom creation needs.
In addition to the jewelry, Joyelles carries candles, glassware, frames, scarves, cards, scents and lotions, among other gifts.
The wedding bands range from the simple and traditional, to custom creations, to bold and modern. Designer brands such as Benchmark and Kirk Kara, featured in the leading bridal magazines, are in their inventory for customers to choose from.
Come June, Vail will be celebrating her own anniversary. This year marks 25 years since she purchased the store.
“It’s been great, she said. “I bought the store when I got divorced and my daughter was five. Gave me the freedom and fluidity of schedule to stay close to home.”
Her daughter grew up in the store. The front corner was “Katie’s Apartment.” Now a lawyer, Katie continues to help out in the store from time to time. Canine members of the family, Riley and Livi now occupy her apartment. The two lap dogs are gentle and kind. Livi has a reputation of leaving her tennis ball in the handbags of unsuspecting customers, in a subtle attempt to coax a game of fetch.
That kind of interaction just enhances the feeling of home.
Vail is a native to Bethlehem. She went to Hamegrael Elementary and graduated from Bethlehem Central. Despite her travels through life, she finds this the best place to live. “When you travel around, you realize this is a nice place. It’s safe. It’s comfortable. It’s close New York City and Vermont. And, it’s close to the ocean. Yet, it’s not a big city. You get to know the people in this community.”
