Being raised by her great-grandmother allowed Carolyn Scofield a unique window into the world of the elderly. Grandmother June raised her until the age of nine, when unfortunately the older lady’s health began to decline. Carolyn would watch her struggling to walk, and climbing stairs became akin to climbing Mt. Everest. With a heavy heart, June was forced to leave her home of many years in search of a first floor apartment with no stairs. Carolyn saw firsthand how painful it was for her great-grandmother to leave the home she so loved, simply for lack of appropriate in-house resources.
Carolyn knew from an early age that she wanted a profession that would allow her to help people. She served in the army, and once her assignment ended, she was drawn to the health care industry. She had a special fondness for senior citizens and those whose health conditions required a little extra help. She entered the adaptive care industry in 2001, working with local companies such as Whittaker and EazyLift. She also worked as an operations manager for ThyssenKrupp Access Corporation. Over the years, Carolyn has helped countless individuals find solutions in order to safely and happily remain in their own homes and maintain their independence.
Scofield Access Solutions (SAS) is a company that yes – finds solutions! SAS sells and rents stairway chairlifts. They also sell wheelchair lifts and residential and commercial elevators. Scofield Access Solutions allows people to safely enjoy their homes or their outdoor spaces – and not be forced to relocate based on physical limitations. She works with individuals to fully assess specific health situations and consider options. She also works with family members who see a need for a parent, spouse or child to get greater assistance, so that they can continue to enjoy the comfort of their own surroundings (indoors and outdoors).
“I have one of the best jobs in the world,” said Carolyn Scofield, President and CEO of SAS, whose enthusiasm and positive energies are contagious. “From my own family experiences, I know how important it is for everyone to be comfortable and safe in their own homes. And with just some minor, low cost modifications, you can stay at home and not be forced into a strange, new environment. Sadly, people often wait too long to address their own or loved ones situations, which can be dangerous. There are so many options for people today, and having both purchase and rental plans available makes adaptive care products very reasonable, sensible and cost-effective.”
SAS provides free consultation on both residential and commercial environments. SAS also works with homebuilders, contractors, architects and real estate professionals to develop specialized solutions for their clients. SAS represents the leaders in the stairlift and elevator industries, including companies such Victory Lifts, Garaventa Lifts, Waupaca Elevators, Harmar, Stannah and Acorn. SAS’s network of installation and service professionals has extensive knowledge of ADA compliance requirements and regularly attend industry training programs to stay abreast of new technologies and products.
