For more than fifteen years, the Chamber of Schenectady County has awarded businesses and individuals the “Good News” awards. The awards are handed out to organizations and people who display “outstanding community support, notable expansion or growth, economic stability or simply true stories of success,” among other criteria.
This year’s “Good News” awards honorees included The Flood Recovery Coalition of Schenectady County, 4 Corners Pizza, STS Steel Inc., Schenectady Floor Covering, Sondra’s Fine Jewelry, Stoney Lane Grill, TJ’s Flightline Pub, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, and Interim Schenectady School Superintendant John Yagielski.
Also, for the first time the Chamber will be recognizing establishments that have been in business for 100 years or longer with a Centennial Honor Roll that will be exhibited on a plaque in its offices.
This year’s honorees include Higgins, Roberts, Beyerl, & Coan, PC which has been in business for 175 years; Merriam Insurance, 117 years; Schenectady County Historical Society, 107 years; Schenectady Day Nursery, 110 years; Brown School, 119 years; Schenectady Insuring Agency, 100 years; GE, 110 years; and the Union Presbyterian Church, 139 years.
The awards will be presented at the Good News Luncheon on April 26 at 11:30 a.m., at River Stone Manor, located at 1437 Amsterdam Road in Glenville.
