The Brookside Museum in Ballston Spa has had a rough couple of years, but a recent donation from Ballston Spa National Bank will hopefully ease the pain.
BSNB recently announced a $10,000 donation to the museum. Brookside, which is home to the Saratoga County Historical Society, has seen its state aid dwindle in recent years and was dealt another blow when the county cut 2012 funding in half.
“From caring for and preserving the county’s historic artifacts and memories to providing educational programs for thousands of local school children each year, the Brookside Museum is a tremendous resource to the Village of Ballston Spa and greater Saratoga region,” said Christopher R. Dowd, BSNB president and CEO. “In making this contribution, we at BSNB hope to enable Brookside to further their educational programs and mission.”
The museum will remain closed in the month of January for the second year running. It’s estimated Brookside serves 12,000 people every year through its various services.
`This donation from BSNB will help us continue preserving and sharing Saratoga County’s unique history. Ballston Spa National Bank has been a wonderful community partner and we are very thankful for their on-going generous support, ` said Jeanne Obermayer, president of Brookside Board of Trustees, in a statement.
The Saratoga County Board of Supervisors had originally proposed to completely defund its contributions to Brookside in this year’s budget, but following a public outcry about half of the money was put back in. County leaders warned Brookside would likely not see any money from the county in 2013, though.
