One man’s hometown pizza quest

BETHLEHEM — There’s a timeless debate going on in our town… and that’s about the best pizza slice. Everyone has their favorite pizza, whether it’s the style, the sauce, the cheese or even the crust. In Bethlehem, there’s a pizza place for everyone. Every slice is unique in its own way, and that’s why this debate will continue to be a discussion. I went around town to give my best review on each pizza place in our town. To help me have a basis of these cheese slices that I reviewed, I used a perfect pizza rubric off https://bit.ly/36dv74r. The ending product I am basing off the overall appearance of the slice. This is my personal favorite opinion based on the one slice I received that day. There is no bad review here; I genuinely enjoyed every slice that I ate. So if you’re ever in a tussle trying to decide what pizza to get, come back to these reviews and make your decision.

Andriano’s Pizza

365 Delaware Ave.

For the cheese lovers, this is your slice. There was tons of cheese and it tasted great. The cheese was absolutely everywhere, which caused this slice to be a little messy. This very cheesy slice was also thin, with a nice, not too crunchy crust. All of the cheese overruled the sauce, and there wasn’t too much sauce on the slice. Based on the perfect pizza slice rubric, the crust: 4, the sauce: 3, cheese: 5. The ending product: 4. Overall, Andriano’s scored a 16. So, for everyone out there that loves their cheesy slices, Andriano’s is for you.

Angela’s Pizza and Pasta

329 Glenmont Road

This was a great slice. It might not favor one group of cheese or sauce lovers because it had the perfect ratio. This slice looked very appealing the second it came out of the oven. The slice wasn’t messy and the full slice itself was sturdy. I really enjoyed the cheese. The sauce had an interesting tang to it but it went well with the slice. I enjoyed the thin crust that had a good amount of softness. Just one downside of this slice may be the amount of grease. Now to the rubric, the crust: 4, the sauce: 3, the cheese: 5. The ending product: 4. Angela’s was a great slice and scored a 16. If you are looking for a great, complete slice, head on over to Angela’s.

Cappadonna’s Pizzeria

244 Delaware Ave.

For the all around pizza lover… this slice is for you. After a minor struggle to get one slice from Cappadonna’s, I finally received a slice and was not disappointed. The cheese was fantastic and I really enjoyed the crust. There was a good amount of sauce and it had a great ratio between cheese and sauce where neither was too noticeably more than the other. Now for scoring, the crust: 4, the sauce: 3, the cheese: 5, and the ending product: 5, with a final score of 17. This slice was great and it was almost the perfect pizza slice.

Gusto’s Pizza

180 Delaware Ave.

For anyone who wants a great looking, well put together and sturdy slice… Gusto’s is the place. Gustos had slices at the ready and they didn’t disappoint. This slice looked just about perfect with the cheese looking organized on the slice. I just have one complaint about the slice — the crust was very hard. Although some people may enjoy that, I prefer soft crust. But this did not take away too much from the slice; the cheese and sauce ratio was perfect. Let’s get to the rubric, the crust: 2, the sauce: 3, the cheese: 4. The ending product: 5.

Gusto’s scored a 14 on the rubric. Overall, great slice and it looked even better.

I Love New York Pizza

374 Delaware Ave.

Another one for the cheese lovers… I Love New York Pizza. This slice was very cheesy. What makes this slice different from Andriano’s is the amount of sauce. I Love NY had more sauce than Andriano’s; personally, I don’t have too much preference for sauce. This slice was very thin and the crust was great. It had the perfect mixture of softness and crunch. Now for the scoring, the crust: 3, the sauce: 3, the cheese: 5. The ending product: 4. I Love New York Pizza scored a 15. All around a great slice here and would come again.

New Village Deli and Pizza

1526 New Scotland Ave.

This pizza slice wasn’t too messy but it was very floppy. This means when you hold the slice, it falls right down. But besides that, I enjoyed it. It had a lot of cheese and the right amount of sauce. I tend to favor the cheesier slices more. The crust was thin and had just about the perfect amount of crisp. To the scoring, the crust: 4, the sauce: 3, the cheese: 3. The ending product… 3. New Village scored a 13. New Village is definitely a great slice.

Romo’s Pizza

365 Feura Bush Road

Out of all the slices I tried, I would say Romo’s is the most unique. The reason they are unique is because of their crust. It tastes a lot more garlicky than the others and it is messier. Everytime you touch the crust, little flakes are spread across your fingertips. The cheese on the other hand is great. The slice was sturdy and well put together with the cheese and sauce at a good ratio. The crust may have not been my favorite, but I still enjoyed this slice. Now for the scoring, the crust… 2, the sauce… 4, the cheese… 4. The ending product… 5. Romo’s scored a 15 on the rubric. People who enjoy a garlicky, crispy crust, this pizza is for you.

Now that I have reviewed the pizza places in our town, I hope that making your pizza night decisions are easier. Supporting local businesses has never been more important. Feel free to use the same rubric I did.
