COLONIE — Duck Donuts, a North Carolina based shop offering “made-to-order” donuts, is opening branch in Latham Farms.

“…Yes, the rumors are true! We are opening in Latham Farms. The construction teams are working hard to get us open for Halloween … so keep your fingers crossed there are no delays!” according to a post on its Facebook page.

Duck Donuts started in 2006 in Duck, North Carolina with one family-owned donut shop. There are now about 90 locations in 25 states and two countries, with more than 100 prospective franchises looking to open. Most are on the east coast. In New York, there is a store in Westchester County, one on Long Island and one set to open on Long Island.

It is not the first novelty donut shop to open on upper Troy Schenectady Road. In 2003, Krispy Kreme opened at 549 Troy Schenectady Road with much fanfare. Less than three years later, it was closed.
