COLONIE — A 92-year-old woman ran into the back of a marked police car while it was stopped at a red light.
According to Sgt. John O’Donnell, the patrol car was stopped at the intersection of Sand Creek Road and Sunset Drive at around 12:05 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10, when the woman rammed into the back of it.
The woman, who is from Colonie but police are not identifying at this time, was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital for treatment of a leg injury. She is in stable condition.
The officer, Eric Montijo, complained of neck pain and was treated and released from a local hospital.
The crash causes substantial damage to both vehicle, and Sand Creek Road was restricted to one lane for about an hour.
The Colonie Police Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the crash as a “non-criminal event.”
