COLONIE – In one of the most intense girls soccer games of the season so far, it took undefeated Shaker overtime to beat its crosstown rival by a score of 3-2.
Colonie’s Tannan Mackey, on an assist by Loryn DonVito, scored the game’s first goal about seven minutes into the second half and that was quickly answered on a free kick by Shaker’s Maggie O’Rourke.
Colonie went up 2-1 on a header by Madison Knowles with 7:09 left in the game and with 2:08 left Cassidy Careccia scored to tie it up.
After the first 10-minute overtime period the score was still knotted at two each.
In the second, with 4:12 remaining, Mauan Khan got a head on a corner kick to get it by goalie Jennifer McCumber.
McCumber had 10 saves for Colonie while her counterpart, Fiona Gassett had four.
Colonie will host Burnt Hills Ballston Spa and Shaker will host Columbia on Saturday, Sept. 22.
