ALBANY — A jury convicted a 23-year-old city man of trying to lure who he believed was a 13-year-old girl to a Colonie hotel for sex.
The jury found Dante Camacho guilty of the felonies of attempted criminal sex act and attempted rape. He is looking at four years in prison when sentenced on Nov. 15. He was remanded to the Albany County jail until that date.
According to District Attorney David Soares, Camacho had engaged in online chat sessions with a member of law enforcement pretending to be a 13-year-old girl.
On Nov. 11, 2016, Comacho went to the Radisson Hotel on Wolf Road with the intention of having sex with the “girl” and was arrested.
“These types of cases are often referred to as ‘traveler’ cases, as an individual will arrange an encounter online and then travel in to our jurisdiction to engage in illegal activity with a minor,” Saores said. “Let this be a clear lesson — Albany County is not a place to engage in this conduct.”
Assistant District Attorney Jennifer McCanney of the Special Victims Unit prosecuted the case in front of Albany County Judge Peter Lynch.
