COLONIE — Hearing aids can now be considered part of the 21st century technological revolution.

General Hearing — located at 417 New Karner Road in Colonie — offers a hearing aid that syncs to Apple’s iPhone and iPad, which allows people to not only hear their devices better, but also the world around them.

“It’s a pretty new stuff,” said Darren Barkman, who runs General Hearing. “We have a number of patients who have been wearing them, and they’ve told me that they think they are the best hearing aids they’ve ever worn.”

Barkman has been running General Hearing since the Eddo family sold their practice to Hearing Health, USA in June 2015. And in the spirit of the Eddo family, who owned General Hearing for more than seven decades, many of the business’ practices remain intact.

“We provide free hearing testing,” said Barkman, who has been involved in audiology for 13 years. “We do all of the testing to determine the scope and the degree of hearing loss. We then provide a follow-up consultation with our patients, where we tell them what degree of hearing loss they have and what their options are.”

General Hearing is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. For an appointment, call 456-3081.
