Hannaford Supermarkets donated 731 cases of food to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York and the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley last week.
Hannaford donated about $10,000 in food to the food bank Thursday, March 12, as part of a hunger-relief campaign taking part across the northeast. This comes after Hannaford Helps Right Hunger in December, where the company would give one item when customers bought non-perishable food. Food donated included cases of pasta, sauce, vegetables and cereal.
As part of the anti-hunger relief campaign, customers purchased boxes of food most needed at local food pantries for $10, or donated at the register when shopping during the holiday season. In return, Hannaford donated one of the same.
“Our customers showed their generosity once again through Hannaford Helps Fight Hunger,” said Hannaford Supermarkets Community Relations Specialist Brian Fabre in a released statement. “At Hannaford, we believe that all New Yorkers can and should have access to the nutritious food they need.”
In 2014, Hannaford’s anti-hunger campaign raised over $1 million in food products and cash throughout the northeast. The supermarket also donated 9.7 million pounds of food to local pantries and the Food Bank.
