While Patrick A. Arpei, 22, of Albany was driving his motorcycle on Albany Shaker Road on the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 22 he was struck by an Albany Park and Fly bus operated by Freeman S. Hopp, 77 of Troy. The Colonie Police Department responded to the accident, which according to reports happened at 7:44 a.m.
According to reports, the bus involved was a 2010 Supreme Van and was turning left on Old Wolf Road from Albany Shaker Road in front of Arpei who was driving a 2006 Honda motorcycle. Arpei was heading west on Albany Shaker Road and sustained extensive injuries as his motorcycle struck the side of the bus. He was transported to Albany Medical Center by Colonie EMS Arpei and later died as a result of those injuries.
Traffic was backed up on Albany Shaker Road, Wolf Road, Old Wolf Road and the Northway for three hours while Colonie Police investigated the crash. Any witnesses are asked to contact the Colonie Police Traffic Safety Unit at 783-2744.
